<The Bird Empress> Synopsis - 양과람 -
Apolinaire, the first empire in history to unify the great
continent.
The symbol of the Apolinaire was the ‘bird’ and serving birds had been a custom since ancient times. There was one legend that had been
handed down through the generations…
[The day
the mystical bird comes down to the empire, the land will finally be colored
with peace.]
It was an oracle
that had come down long ago.
There were many
different interpretations. The emperor’s child would be born in the form of
a bird, the emperor would turn into a bird, the five duchies that served
different birds would each have a daughter become empress, etc.
People waited in
their own ways for the divine bird to come down.
One day, hundreds
of years after the oracle came down, a fist-sized egg descended to the earth
from the heavens.
Haniel has been
ostracized in the heavens because she is especially small among the angels.
Everyone ignores
Haniel because she is a small, fist-sized bird, but she exceeds everyone’s expectations
and is chosen to become a messenger of the Goddess and sent down to earth.
Haniel’s role is to
eradicate the demons who disturbed the earth. After being given a tremendous
mission, Haniel goes down to earth. Haniel’s goal is to
carry out the Goddess’s orders and find her mate.
But before
achieving that mission and her personal goal there is a challenge she has to
complete. She has to endure 30 days in the human world existing as an egg.
Then, after living safely as a bird for 100 days, she will change to a human
form.
Haniel is the
strongest predator of the human world. She falls into an eagle’s nest and
decides to disguise herself as an eagle egg. However, a large falcon takes the
egg containing Haniel and flies off somewhere. The falcon heads to the largest
tower in the Imperial City, Apolinaire Castle. The people in the imperial
castle are surprised to find clear patterns carved into the outside of the egg.
The gold wing pattern symbolizes the empire and the Goddess. Upon seeing the
pattern, the people are convinced that the bird inside the egg is the oracle of
the empire sent by the Goddess.
A large, imposing
bird made of silver and gold. Everyone prays for the glory of the empire as
they imagine a majestic bird hatching from the legendary egg.
The emperor, who
had power, beauty, and everything he could want but was always lonely, takes
care of the egg that will give birth to the oracle and calls it “Phoenix”.
30 days later, the
round egg begins to crack. Everyone is expecting a majestic falcon, but what
comes out of the egg is a small bird the size of a human fist with a cute cry.
The minister’s faces are covered with shock, but the emperor immediately cherishes
and raises Phoenix as the oracle.
Rishar is an
emperor with a friendly, soft voice and a nice look. Haniel decides that
Rishar, who cherishes her, will be her mate. Rishar cherishes Haniel with the
utmost sincerity, bringing in the best artists, calling designers, and throwing
elaborate banquets for the cute baby bird.
After spending 100
days safely as a bird, Haniel finally transforms into a human. Haniel wants to
hug the poor lonely Rishar… but upon seeing her human form he looks at her with a cold gaze.
Haniel is shocked
as she has only seen the friendly Rishar until then. After being imprisoned,
Haniel transforms into a bird and escapes, and the emperor is angry to find out
that his oracle has disappeared.
After arriving at a
mystical forest, Haniel transforms back into a human and finds a wand that
allows her to perform magic. She then tries to change back into a bird to
return to the palace but for some reason can’t transform.
She then tried to travel to the palace as a human but is turned away by guards
at the gate who treat her like a con artist.
The emperor, who
has lost his oracle and spends his time in agony, is comforted by his servants,
who attempt to persuade him that he cannot leave the position of empress empty
forever. Thus, the imperial palace holds a banquet to find an empress.
Haniel is shocked
to learn that the emperor is searching for a bride. Rishar is her mate. She can
never let him go. Thus, Haniel uses magic to disguise herself as a princess and
enters the palace.
After becoming one
of the five empress candidates, Haniel makes sure to keep the other candidates
in check. They suspect Haniel. In the meantime, Haniel discovers there are
demons disguised as humans all over the imperial palace and moves to get rid of
them.
The goal of the
demons is to awaken the souls of their ancient kings who used to rule the world
in the distant past. Haniel discovers that their target is Rishar and tries to
protect him.
As the emperor
still couldn’t forget about the oracle, his vassals devoted themselves to searching
for mysterious birds. Among the birds they found was a bird that lived in
heaven with Haniel. In order to mate with a human, one had to receive their
true love in return. Haniel makes an attempt to appeal to Rishar to not lose
her mate, but he continues to be cold toward her.
Haniel is now able
to freely transform between bird and human again, and the emperor was happy to
find that Phoenix returned to the imperial palace. Haniel feels that Rishar
only liked her as a bird. Thus, Haniel begins her dual career as the emperor’s oracle and a
candidate for empress. Haniel struggles to be loved in her human appearance,
but Rishar remains cold. Even so, Rishar gradually falls in love with the human
Haniel and feels jealous when seeing her talk with another man.
In the end Haniel’s lies are
found out, and the emperor finds himself strangely nervous when he thinks about
having to kick her out. After Haniel is sent away, Rishar gradually finds that
he misses her and orders her to return.
Haniel’s identity is
revealed, and the emperor discovers that he has feelings for her. The subjects
of the empire believe that she is the oracle and destined to become empress and
follow the emperor’s will to make her the empress. The emperor tries to open Haniel’s sulky heart.
Meanwhile, the
demons make their move to awaken Rishar’s soul and make
him king of the demons again. Haniel digs into the legends of the demons and
discovers her fate with Rishar, a destiny from long in the past.
